The Witcher 3 game in 2015 put the CDPR team on the map of game development greats, and achieved huge artistic and commercial successes, and formed a fan base for the development team waiting eagerly for their next project. This project was announced early in 2012, but the real development process began in 2016. The project name is Cyberpunk 2077, an RPG set in a futuristic world full of crazy technologies and exciting events. We witnessed the game as a team for True Gaming several times, especially at E3, where it was shown to us behind closed doors, and now after all this waiting it is in our hands, and we spent the past days trying it and living its special moments. And in this review we will give you the final verdict on the level of the game, and was it really what the fans of the large development team aspired to.
Let’s say it honestly, this is a cross-generational game, but what does that mean? What you will see in the game cannot belong to our current generation, but maybe another generation to come, as if it is a game that someone from the future brought literally. Night City is the greatest city designed for the game, seeing the city for the first time after controlling the character reminded me of seeing the world of Zelda Same Wild for the first time at the start of the game, the same moments of iconic dazzling. Whether you look at the matter in terms of technical and engineering, or in terms of playing and designing stages. I had never seen a city or a game world so bustling with life, I was in the game as if I was visiting a real city, I want to go everywhere and see everything for myself, sometimes at night and sometimes during the day, it’s simply amazing. Everything in the game world is unique and as though it was individually designed by a different developer, with amazing attention to detail even in places where it is not possible to interact with it.
The game uses various graphics and graphics techniques to present us with a fantastic view. You’ll find subtle textures, and a great job of effects like smoke, sparks, and more. And perhaps the most characteristic of the game is the ray tracing technology and how the reflections put a realistic touch on all the city landmarks. This is without a doubt the best view of any game we have ever seen, we were testing the game on a PC using the RTX 3090 card, and this is the most powerful graphics card on the market, and we used to get 60 frames thanks to the DLSS technology luckily. We don’t know how the game will look on console devices, but this game now sets new standards for gaming graphics. We think that players will say the famous question “Can your device run Crysis”, but now the question will be about Cyberbank and for years to come.
What guys they are
During the game, and of course it is an RPG, you will meet many characters and interact with them, and you will have the decision on what to do and how to behave. The game’s characters are, to say the least, very elaborate, whether in terms of design and writing, or in terms of voice and acting. It’s amazing in every sense, this is one of the highest in the industry you can see in this field. And I’m not talking here about the main game characters that will be part of the story, but even the side characters that are designed to perform a simple purpose in a side mission, even these are beautifully designed, and offer excellent audio performance. If the game world attracted us to explore it, the game’s characters also compelled us to meet each one of them and know everything related to it. In general, the game’s story is wonderful and interesting, and it carries many touching moments, whether sad or happy, laughing or crying.
Your destiny is in your hand
In the game, you will be able to start with choosing the background of your story character, and how it emerged from among three options, and then you will embark on the adventure to discover the game world, and certainly to make some important decisions that will affect the course of the story. While playing we were able to finish the game in a little more than 30 hours, and played a large number of side missions, and despite that there were many of them left and we did not discover some others. Certainly, it’s a huge game, especially given that we haven’t explored the other story paths and ending that are available.
While playing the game, you will be able to wander around a huge city similar to the GTA game, and there is a lot to do in the city from visiting shops selling, carrying out missions, and engaging in various activities. There are many cars and vehicles to buy and use. The main missions will appear to you on the map and in the menus, and you will continuously get side missions, some of them are small and fast, and some of them are long and have their own story. We are happy to inform you that the missions were very fun and diversified, whether the main ones or the subsidiary ones, and although we have finished the game, we are only thinking about returning to it and trying everything we missed, no matter how small.
If you have tried Deus Ex before or maybe Watch Dogs, you will find a lot of familiar things here, from hacking surveillance cameras to various espionage methods. Personally, I preferred this path, as it is more difficult and requires more thinking. But the game, of course, in some situations forced me to go to the fight, and from this point of view the game offers the usual shooting experience. There is also an option to fight with hand or manual weapons, and it is designed in a very simple way where you can block and dodge, and execute a light or strong blow, and here you will find a fitness indicator that will have a role in determining the number of strikes that you can perform manually.
The game offers a great variety in the implementation of missions, there is car chase and moving shooting, and there is espionage to steal data, and also some missions that ask you to rescue a hostage, and there are conditions from time to time and optional goals if you want to work with them. And fans of multiple tracks in the implementation of missions will love the game very much, as it offers you several options for how to face situations, such as choosing to enter the main door such as Rambo, or finding a way to the back door or maybe even jumping from the roof through a small hole.
The effort put into the game will dazzle you in every moment you think about it, as we have seen in the design of missions and the game world and its characters, you will find it as you enter the game menus, where there are several development trees and customization options for the various things that you do. In the end, you are half human and half machine, just as the clothes you wear affect you as in other RPG games, so will the prosthetic organs and the programs that you store in your body affect you. Development tree options will be important to you while playing, some chat options will require a certain level in a certain tree, and some doors or computers will require a certain level to break or unlock them. It will be up to you, if you choose the path of fighting you can obtain very important abilities that will make you a super man.
Unfortunately, games of this size are often used to find technical errors or bugs, as they say, and some of them, despite long attempts to modify, the team cannot fix all of them, and this is or understanding. But what we cannot overlook are the technical errors that affect gameplay, and we have found them in this game and encountered them many times. But the development team promised us an update or patch on release day that should solve many of these problems. Unfortunately we waited for this update to give the final opinion, but we discovered that it solved only some problems and left others, and we still see a man walking in the air, sitting on a hidden chair, or breaking through the wall, and some other problems here and there. The game will need at least several months of fixes in order to appear more polished and free from most bugs, it’s really a pity.
Middle Eastern version
Before concluding, we would like to talk about an important matter in the game, which is related to the Middle East version. The development team kindly provided an option in all international versions to block nudity in the game, and this option will be mandatory in the Middle East version that will not contain nudity. Also, there is full-text localization of the game, whether menus or conversations. The game uses one of the most beautiful Arabic fonts that we have seen inside the games, and fortunately most of them are from right to left. In terms of the level of translation, most of them are executed in a good way, with some situations that we are used to which include a literal translation that does not give the exact meaning.
At the conclusion of the review all I can say to the development team is, I’m tired of you after you. Night City is an unprecedented city, and I would be very unlikely to see anything like it for a long time. Cyberbank is a truly astonishing technical achievement that proves that CDPR has reached heights we never could have imagined, surpassing everything they’ve done in the Witcher franchise ever. We have not seen for a long time a game that puts the PC as a main platform, and breaks the boundaries of what can be accomplished. This is a game designed for graphics tools that are not yet available, but will come in the future.
Do yourself a favor and enter the world of Cyberpunk 2077 at the earliest opportunity. Where you will go on a journey to the future, to see things you have never seen before, and to live amazing experiences and stories, and unforgettable moments, made by CDPR like no one has done before.
